This short but beautiful walk links the castles of Thun and Oberhofen. Along the way you will discover another castle: Hünegg Castle at Hilterfingen.

In its early stages, the relatively short walk leaves you enough time to stroll around the attractive old town of Thun. After passing through the pedestrianised zone of Bälliz to the marketplace, you make your way along the high pavements of Obere Hauptgasse before climbing the steps to the castle. Here you encounter the mighty keep built by the Dukes of Zähringen around 1200, experience the splendour of a knights’ hall dating from the Late Middle Ages and enjoy superb views from the towers across the town and Lake Thun – all set against a stunning alpine backdrop. The day-trip mountains of the Niesen and Stockhorn – both easily accessible from Thun – stand out clearly.

The beautiful path then leads out of Thun and along the lake to the landing stage at Hünibach. At this point the trail leads away from the lake and up to Hünegg Castle at Hilterfingen. Visitors can rest and fortify themselves in the castle café before making their way down to Oberhofen and its magnificent castle. Thanks to the landing stage right next to Oberhofen Castle, returning to Thun by boat is a possibility.
