Visible from afar, the Kaiseregg looms 2,185 m over the village of Schwarzsee. The conquest of this majestic summit is a must for all keen local hikers. This day-long hike is the perfect way to explore the Fribourg Alps. The 1,100 metre ascent does demand a good level of fitness. At the summit, however, the breath-taking panoramic view will justly reward you for your efforts. Alternatively take the Riggisalp chair lift, which will reduce the actual climb to around 700 metres.
The hike begins in the Gypsera hotel car park. To make the ascent easier, you can take the chair lift to the Riggislip (altitude: 1,484 metres), where you can stop off for refreshments at the Bärghuus Riggisalp. Alternatively, you can carry on past the Alphütte Riggisalp (mountain cabin) to the romantic Riggisalp mountain lake. From this point, there is a slightly steep climb to the Salzmatt.
From the Salzmatt, there is a rather steep path along the crest of the mountain, followed by a steep climb through rocks to arrive at the Kaisergg mountain pass. The mountain path flattens out before gently climbing to the peak of the majestic 2,185 metre-high Kaiseregg.
Upon reaching the Kaiseregg summit, take time to soak in the spectacular view of the Bernese and Valais Alps.
Return again via Salzmatt. From there it is a slight descent to Hürlisboden. The track goes through the forest, over the the Kaiseregg skilift station to the Mittler Stalden. Follows the Riggisalp stream past the modern church, until you arrive at the main street. A short walk along this street will bring you back to the Gypsera car park.
